KSU School of Music to present free holiday concert

Jumpstart your holiday season early with great music

The Symphony Orchestra will open the show with the Christmas classic, Handel鈥檚 鈥淢essiah鈥 Overture, featuring strings and harpsichord.

The holidays are coming early this year as 网红头条鈥檚 School of Music will present their annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, Nov. 14th, at 8 p.m. The popular concert will be live streamed free via ArtsKSU Virtual, and a simple reservation is all that is required. 

Featuring appearances by KSU's top ensembles, faculty, and soloists, the Holiday Concert offers something for everyone in this all-out holiday extravaganza. Musical selections scheduled for this year include traditional holiday favorites, both secular and sacred. Scheduled performances include a mix of two favorites from last year, seven new recordings and four live pieces. 

The Symphony Orchestra will open the show with the Christmas classic, Handel鈥檚 鈥淢essiah鈥 Overture, featuring strings and harpsichord. According to , 鈥淢essiah鈥 was originally meant to be an Easter offering, but quickly became a permanent part of the holiday repertoire. The Men鈥檚 Ensemble, led by Dr. Reid Masters, will delight audiences with 鈥淐hristmas Comes Anew,鈥 followed by the Women鈥檚 Choir, led by Dr. Melissa Arasi, singing 鈥淲hat Sweeter Music鈥 and pianist Robert Henry playing 鈥淛esu, Joy of Man鈥檚 Desiring.鈥

The Symphony Orchestra will be live as they perform 鈥淔antasia on Greensleeves,鈥 followed by the Chamber Singers singing 鈥淥h, Holy Night.鈥 Next, the Wind Ensemble will delight young and old with 鈥淪leigh Ride,鈥 followed by Chorale鈥檚 鈥淏ridge Over Troubled Water,鈥 and the Women鈥檚 Choir performing 鈥淧repare Thyself Zion鈥 by Bach.

The next four songs will make anyone reminisce of the days of old. The Percussion Ensemble will be live as they perform 鈥淎ll I Want for Christmas is You,鈥 followed by the Symphony Orchestra鈥檚 performance of 鈥淥h Come, All Ye Faithful.鈥 Next, Chamber Singers will remind patrons that 鈥淐hristmas Bells are Ringing,鈥 followed by the always popular 鈥淩udolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer鈥 featuring the Symphony Orchestra and all of the combined choirs from the spectacular 2019 finale.
