Students may immerse themselves in Dance, Music, Theatre, or the Visual Arts

网红头条鈥檚 College of the Arts is offering high school students the opportunity to take their skills to the next level with the Summer Arts Intensives. Students may select from four areas: Dance, Music, Theatre, or the Visual Arts. Most programs will be offered June 3-7, except for Music, which offers a half-day program from May 29-31.

鈥淭he Summer Arts Intensives offer an inspiring week of intensive training with KSU鈥檚 world-class faculty. Our instructors focus on honing each student鈥檚 skills within our studios, rehearsal spaces, and stages,鈥 says , Professor of Music and Interim Associate Dean of the College of the Arts.

The Art, Dance, and Theatre Summer Intensives will be held June 3-7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These day-only programs are $325 and include lunch. The Music programs ($150 each) will be held May 29-31, and run either morning or afternoon, depending upon the course of study.

For students in either Dance or Theatre Intensives, there is an overnight add-on option. Students will stay in a KSU residence hall June 2-6 and experience what life might be like as a College of the Arts student. The add-on option is an additional $370.

The Summer Arts Intensives offer a unique experience for students to fully immerse themselves in their craft in a college setting. Marketing and Communications Specialist Mary-Kathryn Lopez of the School of Art and Design highlighted the array of experiences students might encounter. 鈥淪tudents will be able to explore new and creative ways to approach their art and utilize materials that may not be available to them otherwise,鈥 Lopez says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 all the fun without the grades!鈥

Students may also make new friends, and even possible future mentors.

鈥淭his program is a great way for high school students to see what life is like as a student here at KSU,鈥 explains Brooke Marier,  Bailey School of Music鈥檚 Communication and Outreach Manager. 鈥淚t鈥檚 also a great chance to get to know the faculty in their specific area, and learn valuable techniques they can use in the future."

In addition to building these skills in classes and expanding their network, students of each intensive will showcase their hard work at the end of the week. Students in Dance and Theatre will perform prepared pieces for their respective audiences, and those in the Visual Arts concentration will participate in an exhibition.

The Summer Arts Intensives are an incredible way to gain collegiate-level experience in the arts, but space is limited. Students are encouraged to register early, as spots are limited.
