Minor in Coaching

The Coaching Minor offered through the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education is based on the Coaching Education National Standards issued by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. This program prepares you as a future coach in a variety of sports and athletic settings. The Coaching Minor begins with three foundational courses followed by advanced sport-specific coaching methodology courses and the opportunity to complete a coaching practicum in a sports setting.

The Coaching Minor helps you:

  • Obtain the knowledge and skills to work in a coaching environment
  • Expand your credentials when entering the teacher education profession
  • Participate in training and enhance your marketability to seek valuable coaching and teaching positions in public or private school settings
  • Meet the recreational and community sports league demands to become a trained volunteer coach
  • Expand your networks in the coaching arena for your professional development

  • HPE 3090: Advanced Coaching Methods for Strength and Conditioning
