Minor in Spanish

The Spanish Minor at KSU will allow you to develop linguistic and intercultural communication skills in the second most widely-spoken language in the world. In the U.S., Spanish is rising ahead of any other non-English language at a rapid pace, with a steady flow of new immigrants from Latin America and growth in the already large Hispanic population. According to a Pew Research Center report, an estimated 37.6 million people in the U.S. speak Spanish as their first language and analysts predict the Latino population will reach approximately 128.8 million by 2060, likely making it the largest Spanish speaking country in the world. By adding a Spanish Minor to majors in business, health sciences, education, and communication, you will be prepared for job opportunities in the U.S. and abroad.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to study the literature of such distinguished authors as Cervantes, Neruda, Garc铆a M谩rquez, Castellanos, and Vargas Llosa and enjoy the films of Almod贸var, Cuar贸n, Del Toro and I帽谩rritu. The Minor in Spanish requires 15 hours of SPAN course work at the level of 2002 or above. These 15 hours must include SPAN 3200, SPAN 3302, and SPAN 3303. Advanced speakers should consult with a Spanish advisor about testing options using the Advanced Standing examinations available in the Department of Foreign Languages.
