The Office of Undergraduate Research Announces the Secondary Education Research Internship Funding (SERIF)

The Office of Undergraduate Research is dedicated to supporting faculty who are committed to mentoring and empowering secondary education-level students.

The Secondary Education Research Internship Funding (SERIF) is open to faculty members who are currently integrating high school students into their research projects as part of a high school internship requirement.

We invite faculty to submit applications for funding throughout the academic year. Awards are up to a maximum of $1,000 per faculty applicant.

Funding Requirements & Guidelines

Eligibility Requirements Funding Guidelines
  • Faculty who are currently in the process of applying to or have already been approved by the Protecting Minors Program registry (only applies to students who are under 18 years of age at the time of application)
  • This research must be a collaborative effort with a current high school student participating in their high school's internship program
  • Faculty may work with one or more high school students on the project
  • Funds must be utilized by the end of April 2025 to meet fiscal year deadlines
  • Faculty are responsible for completing the Registered 网红头条or process for each student, as needed
  • Complete at least one dissemination activity (for example, presenting at KSU's Symposium of Student Scholars, presenting at a disciplinary conference or undergraduate research conference, or submitting a manuscript for publication)
  • Faculty are required to complete an end-of-experience assessment survey
  • Funds may only be used to cover the following costs: 
    • Background checks as associated with the Protecting Minors policy and procedures
    • Registered 网红头条or parking pass
  • Funds cannot be used for:
    • Supplies or materials to conduct research (for example, software, materials for the arts, scientific supplies, books/journals that cannot be provided by the library, etc.) 
    • Personnel (for example, a stipend provided to minors to conduct research) 
    • Travel and/or registration costs for students presenting at a conference 
    • Travel costs to collect data 
    • Participant incentives (for example, gift cards for individuals who participate in a survey or experiment) 
    • Publication costs 

How to Apply:

Applications are accepted until March 26, 2025, and will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Please note: final reviews cannot be submitted for incomplete applications. If requested documentation is not available at the time of application submission, they must be provided as soon as available to our@kennesaw.edu
