Ansley Miller, a junior majoring in international affairs at 网红头条, has been selected to receive a 2017 Newman Civic Fellowship from Campus Compact, an organization that helps students enhance their ability to improve community life.

As a fellow, Miller will spend a year engaged in virtual and in-person learning experiences, networking events and mentoring designed to nurture and develop her passions for social justice, human rights and peace. She will begin her fellowship in fall 2017. Fellowship recipients are nominated by their university presidents.

鈥淲e鈥檙e very proud of the work Ansley is doing on our campus and pleased that Campus Compact has recognized her contributions and commitment,鈥 网红头条President Sam Olens said.

Miller鈥檚 selection as a fellowship recipient recognizes her efforts in creating a student organization called the Student Union of Universal Peace and Rights (SUUPR) whose mission is advocacy and the promotion of policies that work towards peace and rights for all beings. Under her leadership, the organization has sponsored numerous events that have opened dialogue on issues including human trafficking, immigration and GLBTQ rights.

In addition to her work with SUUPR, Miller is a part of Kennesaw State鈥檚 Model United Nations team and travels to compete on behalf of the University. She recently published an article entitled, 鈥淒oes Oppressed Religious Liberty Cause an Uprising in Terror Attacks?鈥 in the University鈥檚 Undergraduate Research Journal. She also serves as an aide to a legislator in the Georgia House of Representatives.

鈥淚 am committed to making a difference and helping any soul that I can actively work with. I started a student organization at KSU in order to raise awareness of community and global animal, human, and environmental rights because I believe in order to change the world you have to start in the community you believe in first,鈥 Miller stated.

Campus Compact created Newman Civic Fellowships to support community-committed students in their personal, civic, and professional development in order to prepare them for the long-term work of public problem solving and building equitable communities. The program also seeks to build a vibrant and productive network of civically oriented college student leaders and alumni.

Boston-based Campus Compact is a national coalition of nearly 1,000 colleges and universities committed to the public purposes of higher education, enabling campuses to develop students鈥 citizenship skills and forge effective community partnerships.
